You can get good deals potentially with Hotwire, but when you get screwed, you get screwed BIG TIME. Happended to me. I booked a 3 star hotel in New England and ended up getting a dump, the second lowest rated hotel in town on Trip Advisor. A bed bud infested hotel with only "terrible" reviews in the past year on Trip Advisor.

  3. Very Disappointing Recent Experience With Hotwire - Tripadvisor

People who seem to be most satisfied with Hotwire research the going rate of acceptable hotels before they book and only book with Hotwire if the secret rate is substantially below the going rate. I believe if you look at Hotwire's terms and conditions you will find the 58% savings is an averge based on several factors.

1 post. 1 review. Anyone else have refund problems with Hotwire? 9 years ago. So I book a room trough Hotwire's "Secret Hot Rate" and it turns out that their Standard Rate is $2 cheaper at the same hotel. I didn't book the Standard Rate room because a pool was not listed in their amenities and I swim laps almost every day.

If I would have waited to book about a week or two before my stay, I could have booked direct and secured a similar rate to the Hotwire rate that I reserved in advance.

1 post. AVOID hotwire bait and switch. 6 years ago. Hotwire advertised a "hot rate" deal that would give me 51% off a hotel as we were looking for a special getaway. The going rate for this hotel was around $300 and with 50% discount came down to around $150 per night. After we booked the hotel name was revealed which was only 15% off the going ...

  7. Are Expedia and Hotwire safe and reliable ... - Tripadvisor

Booking a hotel on Expedia is easy and safe. Hotwire is complex and not for you in this situation. You should book flights directly with the airline of your choice. The room can be booked as a package with the flight or, as przyk suggests, the room can be booked separately via the hotel website.
