Downtown Chicago IS a Mall, There are three highrise malls on Michigan Ave. A Walmart Express opened last year at Chicago Ave, and Franklin. Target and Sears both have huge stores in the Loop. The discount stores mixed in with the high end stuff are: Nordstrom Rack, TJMaxx, Home Goods, Marshall's, Bed Bath and Beyond.

If you are into zoos,you can visit Brookfield Zoo ( in Brookfield .IL ) which is not that far from Walmart You can rent (hire) a car for the day,visit the zoo and do your shopping afterward.There is also a Target there ,so you can check out both stores if you like.
