No you don't need a Chinese local number to use Didi. I used my singapore phone number and have been able to use Didi through out my stay in China for 12 days. For payment, I use Alipay, which now accepts top up of max RMB 2000 from foreign credit cards. Or you can pay by cash, which is inconvenient. Report inappropriate content.

Can buy a Chinese SIM card in any larger branch of China Mobile, China Unicom or China Telecom. In cities outside Beijing and Shanghai it could be difficult to buy a Chinese SIM card though as they probably wonβt speak English.
Taiwan mobile phone numbers begin in three digits ranging 090~098 with a total length of 10 digits: 09X followed by 7 digits (e.g. 092 1234567). When calling a Taiwan landline phone number using a local Taiwan mobile phone, the 0 prefix for the area code must be included (e.g. area code with 0 prefix included + 8 digit landline number).
