I book my own travel and only have gotten AAA discounts in the USA at large chain hotels. When I go to Europe I use smaller local hotels or B&Bs to get more of the local flavor.
As for AAA membership the discounts you get on hotels usually covers your membership if you travel enough. Usually $5-$10 savings per night. You get AAA discounts for some tourist things to do like tour or event tickets. Then you have the free naps and guide books. And you have roadside assistance.
Hi- We are considering a 14 days Tauck Tour of Scotland and England. I reviewed their brochure and noticed that the hotels all seem really upscale compared to Insight vacations. (Looked into that one, also.) Also, it seems to be a slower pace where there are half days of sight-seeing and time off for yourself.
I have booked Apple through the local AAA agency and received the same price as Apple directly. However, I do not purchase the insurance from Apple but from the local agency--about the same price. The benefit of booking through the AAA is that I do not have to pay the full amount up front--only 15% wi;th the balance due 45 day prior to departure.
We've used AAA the last three trips; initially they are usually $100 or so less than the full Disney package rates. That being said, those three trips we ended up modifying the booking thru AAA due to discount packages that later become available before our travel dates (30% room discounts, 4/3 deals, free dining) - then you loose the initial AAA disount (again $ 100 in our case) because you ...

I'm planning my trip for August for a party of 7, and found that it's cheapest if I book everything separately, esp. when I am going to Universal Studios as well.
