I think Priceline has gotten away from their original sales model. They used to mainly offer blind bidding for potential steep discounts. When I looked at Priceline recently for a car rental their prices were comparable to booking through any other third party or booking direct and most of the listings named the rental car company.
-Hawaiian airlines discount with Avis: K816401 (This one tends to be the cheapest)-Island air discount with Budget: U030087-Other rental car options include Discount hawaii car rental, Adventures rent-a-jeep (used cheap 4x4s), Costco, Priceline and Expedia. I'm sure there are lots more options, but found these to be the best.
It's with Hertz thru Priceline. I know DHCR doesn't team up with Hertz so maybe Hertz is offering deals thru them instead. If I look up prices on Hertz directly, it's $1000, just like all the other rental places. Who knows, maybe it's just the luck of my dates? I hope everyone else finds better prices somewhere.
29. Re: Rental car discount codes and lowest prices. 9 years ago. We will be in Maui from 12/26 through 1/2, and I just switched from a $482 Nissan Sentra for the week from DHCR, to a $231 Ford EDGE from Costco. It pays to keep checking! (Both of these reservations were from Budget).

With Priceline NYOP or Hotwire Hot Rates (see the FAQ's before you bid) - you get what you paid for and you pay up-front. A car for one driver - no extra perks or FF miles or free upgrades, etc. No changes allowed. Also, free loyalty programs like Alamo Quicksilver or Hertz # 1 Club (where you get an additional driver at no charge) do not apply.
