if you set the maps you create in Your Places or My Maps and make them public you can then share the link on email; Google+; twitter and facebook. and they can edit the map if you give them permission - so anyone could add POIs. you are allow 10 layers with 10 destinations in each layer.

The 'Update details' form has been broken since it was introduced over a year ago and I have been complaining about the inability to correct pin locations ever since! An improved Update form has been promised for early this year but has yet to arrive.
Then go to maps.google.com, type in Paris (for example) then click on My Places and Create Map. Give your map a name. Then, search for something, such as Notre Dame or Basilica Saint-Denis or whatever. It will show up as usual with a red pin and a box with a description that includes "save to map."
