if you set the maps you create in Your Places or My Maps and make them public you can then share the link on email; Google+; twitter and facebook. and they can edit the map if you give them permission - so anyone could add POIs. you are allow 10 layers with 10 destinations in each layer.

The 'Update details' form has been broken since it was introduced over a year ago and I have been complaining about the inability to correct pin locations ever since!
