Maybe not in Toronto but in many European cities you'll notice Google gives walking directions that are very different then driving. They have to deal with pedestrian only zones and other short cuts.

Create walking direction with as many stops as you could in your android google maps, or on laptop and send directions to your phone. Keep it on your screen as separate item. Download offline map for that area and you can open your directions anywhere. Also you can convert it to kmz and send to mapsme app, but this needs some google search ...

After setting up the walk in wifi, I turned off both wifi and Data usage, and went on the walk. It was perfect, giving voice directions and arrow movement in real time. Thanks, William.

6 years ago. Save. i got back from S. America. I saved some offline maps for use in Curitiba, Brazil. But i was using the bus not walking. Google Maps only provides driving directions. They don't provide walking directions offline yet. It's a shame because google has great walking directions that I haven't seen anybody else match. Even without the special walking directions you can just follow the driving directions. Usually you aren't walking so far that it makes a huge difference
Google Map France can also be downloaded for offline use. You just won't get live traffic. Map use doesn't consume a ton of data anyway. I have an old but still kicking Garmin as well. I still use it when I drive in foreign countries. I then use Google Map as a back-up, primarily for searches.
