When you get into overseas travel and cruises, the cost can be very high - that's a risk for either shonky service or worse, shonky or non-existent aftercare. Times have changed with the internet.
We used Costco to travel to London last year and it was very good, a good value. Not so much in Italy. We are planning a trip in early October - 4 days in Rome, 4 days in Florence. I'm figuring $200/night looks about right as a base rate. The good part of Costco is convenience and they do stand behind their services.
The Costco travel agent was very helpful as I explained to her we wanted to use our miles to fly to Hawaii but buy the costco Maui vacation package through them. The package included ocean-view hotel room, rental car , daily breakfast, luau, island show(or sunset cruise) and $200 resort credit.
