   There are also very good and free map apps like maps.me which allow you to download maps. These should provide you with detailed road maps. Both will work off-line (ie. No cell or wifi access) and will use your phone gps to find your location. However, if you need detailed trail maps or elevations etc, you will need to buy a proper paper map.

It's the least frequently updated of the map apps, with wrong information, imaginary places, and poor directions. Try organic maps: much more detailed, updated every month, and aimed at walkers and cyclists.
