2. Re: Which Rental Car Companies Are Easiest at Airport. All car rental facilities at LAX are off-site, and you will need to take a shuttle from the terminal to get to one. I would stick with the major firms - Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty.
Some people like buying the rental company's insurance just for peace of mind. $400 to $500 is probably a good average. For a September booking like mine, $200 to $300 is the norm for a 10 day rental, but if you're booking during Christmas holiday time, $500 to $800 would be about right.
Most rental carcompanies are onsite at the airport. The only major companies that are offsite are Enterprise and Hertz-they are a shuttle drive away. Most car rental shuttles including Hertz pull up to the 'traffic island' in the roadway in front of exit door for baggage claim at each terminal. The traffic island has color-coded signs hanging over it. Look for the PURPLE overhead sign that says "Rental Cars".
