When I went to the car rental desk at Sixt at MIA to pick up my car, I was told that if I wanted to use toll roads, they would have to either charge me $10/day for every day of my rental PLUS TOLLS, or $5 per toll booth, plus tolls.

The reason to prepay a rental is that it is rather cheaper to do it that way, not to negate them authorising a deposit on your card for security. If you return a rental car without a full tank then yes you will be stung, around €150 seems the rate at the moment.

Never again or recommend Sixt Car Rental. Rented for 3 days and returned as agreed and the total amount of was charged to credit card. One month later my credit card was charged $159.36 for Tolls (Administration fee 85.00, Tools 46.84 Subtotal $131.84 plus 37.52 taxes).
