My husband had the idea of switching our cars out part way through the trip to try and save on the extra charges. If we switch cars in Reno, our total cost for the rental would be $999.56.

   20% sounds pretty good. Compare their rate to say carhire3000 and that will give you a guide. I prefer Hertz over other rental companies. I'm not sure about getting the gold membership.
