On a 'partial transit' cruise to the Canal, we booked the ship's excursion from Gatun Lake. It fills the square of experiencing the entire canal with all it's locks, and something I do not regret. However, it is a long day, most of which is spent waiting. For cruisers, the first 'surprise' is the excursion begins with a bus, not the tour boat.
