I have never used Dollar or Thrifty at LAX, but in general you need to add 30 to 40 minutes when returning vehicles at LAX. It will take time to refuel (unless you prepaid for gas), find the rental car return driveway, unload the vehicle, walk around it with the employee who is receiving returned vehicles, walk over to the shuttle waiting area, wait for the shuttle, and then ride to the ...
1. Drop off the rental car the night before in Hollywood. 2. In the morning, take a taxi to LAX. Again, this will save you the cost of the rental for the last day, as well as the cost of parking it at the hotel ($29) and will allow you to "sleep late" the last morning since you won't have to get to the airport early to drop off your rental car.
We just used Midway Car Rental for our week's stay in LA. I was concerned because it was about half the price of the major car rental companies so I figured something was wrong. But they were wonderful, and the car was great. Both the check in and check out could not have been easier. I highly recommend them.
