LAX car rental office are off site, there's nothing at the airport itself, you shuttle to them. You would have to price compare yourself, call whichever company you use, or be sure to join the loyalty clubs at Budget or any of the others, for discounts.
A couple of observations on Hertz and Avis from LAX. I visited Los Angeles twice during the past month. I was looking for compact cars at LAX fitted with GPS equipment, and since the price differentials between the various companies ran less than $5-10 per day, I went with Hertz and Avis because I've had fewer problems with them than other companies in the past.
