2. Re: Which Rental Car Companies Are Easiest at Airport. All car rental facilities at LAX are off-site, and you will need to take a shuttle from the terminal to get to one. I would stick with the major firms - Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty.

Answer 1 of 7: We are flying into LAX in August. I'm looking for a rental car and am seeing rates around $240 cheaper renting away from the airport vs at LAX. LAX rate at Enterprise is $634, Enterprise in Marina Del Rey is $394.
A couple of observations on Hertz and Avis from LAX. I visited Los Angeles twice during the past month. I was looking for compact cars at LAX fitted with GPS equipment, and since the price differentials between the various companies ran less than $5-10 per day, I went with Hertz and Avis because I've had fewer problems with them than other companies in the past.
The Renaissance is 1/2 block from a major crossroads in Los Angeles as far as public transit is concerned. The corner of Hollywood Bl & Highland Av (1/2 block south of the hotel) has a RED LINE metro rail station with trains to Universal Studios (4 minutes) and downtown Los Angeles (15 to 20 minutes).
If you rent from Hertz the first time as a gold member, you have to get verified in person. you can do that at any Hertz office in your home city -- no need to wait until you get to LAX -- But even if you don't , there is a separate Gold counter that wont' have much of a line if at all at the pickup place
