    15 years ago. Hi. I have made myself an expert on evaluation of rental car rates over the past 3 months. Now I cannot speak for Canadian AAA membership, but I know that I could save at least 10% on a posted rate. But, and there is a catch! You must watch carefully that they do not apply this savings to a "market" rate.

The hotel sites that offer AAA discounts have a place where you select AAA rate which is about 15% when booking online or will give the discount when showing up on the day.

    A AAA member fir over 20 yrs.... The membership is worth it. The maps are free so if you are traveling that is $20 or more in maps and guide books. On top of it you get. AAA rate for hotels which is about a 10% discount on hotels. You also get AAA service from travel agents.

    More bad news....if you don't own a car, and therefore don't have your own auto insurance, you'll have to purchase liability insurance to go with your car rental.Might be best to go through something like AutoEurope.com, and choose a rate that includes liability coverage (your credit card probably gives you automatic collision coverage, but not liability).
