   I recommend self driving if you have experience driving in the country, speak Vietnamese, hold a valid permit (Vietnamese or international), know the car insurance is current and have access to a vehicle. I've done it on a number of occasions. Most of the above conditions aren't anywhere near on the horizon for the average tourist to Vietnam.
