   Alamo/Costco didn't come close to Dollar's DHCR prices for our 2018 trip. With some reluctance, we made the switch to Dollar. There were no problems with Dollar's quick car pick-up or drop off. For 2019, we've reserved Dollar through DHCR -- with frequent searches for lower rates at Costco & Autoslash.

   6 years ago. Dollar/Thrifty (same company) is the worst out of all the major US companies. I would still use them but go in being prepared and stand up to anything you don't agree with. Many people that seldom rent car's fall into these different traps. Trip Advisor forums are full of negative stories about various car rental companies.

   On DHCR, Brand A is Avis, Brand B is Budget, Brand C is Thrify, and Brand D is Dollar. Periodically recheck the DHCR site for lower rates. If you are Costco member, also check the Costco Travel site. Also try the coupon codes I listed above, U030087 for Budget or K816401 for Avis. Costco will also have the cheapest gas on the island.
