   All the car rental places I've found, AND the ones I used (Thrifty rent-a-car), were at the San Antonio Airport (approx. 40 minutes north of the base). I did not see one on the base itself. That's not to say Lackland doesn't have one, but I drove around quite a bit and didn't see any there. Thrifty gave me a nice, KIA Optima Sedan for $26.00 a day.

   We've always rented vehicles through USAA because we get a pretty decent military discount. I found a deal on Hotwire that is a significant savings over USAA, however. I know car rentals go fast on the island so I thought I would ask on he if there have been any problems with Hotwire and reservations before we pull the trigger. Thanks!!

   You can look up their reviews on here, but generally rental car companies are franchises. Hertz owns Thrifty; they're a major provider. And Thrifty in Tahiti and Moorea may be absolutely great. I have used them a lot in the US because their prices are often very low. But I've found their customer service iffy, and sometimes terrible.
