    3. Re: TSA & Toothpaste. 12 years ago. Hi, lytwrkr, Hit up Long's before you go.. They have a full stock of "minis" that are explicitly packaged in sizes that meet the 3oz/100ml limits that are the near word-wide standard. On a per-ounce basis, they're a bad value, but in the end, you can't take a larger than 3oz container that has equal to or ...

You can refill a travel-size toothpaste tube. Saves money! I've made a coupling device, from two old caps. Trim all the excess off, like the lid and as much of the spout as possible. You can then bond the two pieces together, using a soldering iron (or equivalent). If you're really handy, this can be quite a neat job, but it works very well.

More and more companies are making travel sizes 3oz or less. Example, Aveno now makes my moisturizer in a 2.5 oz size and, in the USA, Duane Reade and CVS have a very large number of travel sizes of almost EVERYTHING. I can get enough for 5 days in a 1 qt zip-lock bag. But then I have to use (YUCK) roll-on deodorant.

As we fly international often, we also end up with even smaller toothpaste tubes, and keep those around, to be pressed into use should our slightly larger travel size tube run out. Yes, it does take a bit of planning to pick up a few tubes in the travel size at a store, but we do the same for hand-sanitizer too. Fly safely, Hunt

The TSA restriction is based on volume. But toothpaste marked as "3 oz" is indicating a weight, and is far less than 3 oz (~100 ml) of volume. 100 ml of toothpaste is a lot more volume than is occupied by 3 oz (by weight). I'm travelling in the UK now and see that toothpaste here is marked by volume: 100 ml tubes! Yay!

When we travel overseas w/carry-on only for 2 weeks, we take a full-size toothpaste in our 3-1-1 bag. Our full-size is 3 oz. We never use the whole thing, either.

Roll on types of deoderant are fine as long as they are 100 ml or smaller, the travel size of shaving cream or gel is fine if your cologne is in a bottle larger than 100 mil, you can put it into a travel size one, it doesn't have to be a cologne bottle, and the travel size toothpaste works.
