That doesn't mean that they won't take them, but you could get someone that is a stickler for policy. Report inappropriate content.

Call around to some of the Name brand companies and explain you do NOT use credit cards. I have heard through the radio talk show with Dave Ramsey that they will accept debit.

The potential issue with using Debit is that any pre-authorisation ("hold") placed on your card is held against your money, rendering it inaccesible for any other purpose until it's cleared/settled. So your account has to contain enough to cover this pluds your actual spends.

    According to the link above Advantage will debit your card the total of the rental plus up to $140 deposit. So, if your rental total is $200 plus a $140 deposit= $340 debited from your card immediately and then the deposit refunded some days after you return the car. Again, all companies do not have the same policy. Read the T&Cs.

    1 review. 1. Re: Help - Renting a car and no credit card! 15 years ago. You can get a pre-paid credit card, or some rental companies will require a large cash deposit. There are ways to get around it, but they need a credit card and will put a large hold on it, or need an equally large amount of cash as a deposit.
