I typically take the bus into Manhattan, but sometimes I drive in and park on the west side, if it's after 6:00 pm, usually finding free street parking near to 10th Ave, in the 20's/30's. I need to drive in one day this week, but it will be around 3:00 pm.

If you coming from SI just take the Manhattan Bridge and look for parking in East Village or Lower East Side. If you park close to Astor Place you’ll be close to subways.

The weekends might be easier, because sometimes there is no alternate-side-of-the-street parking then. Esp. Sunday. But be sure to read the signs on the street carefully to be sure, it varies street by street, time by time.

While I'm there I will be sporadically driving around to different places within 1 hour of Manhattan. Sometimes I might come and go twice a day but usually just once.
