I bought tickets on Indigo with my US-based Visa card last October and it worked fine but now it doesn't work. I ended up using makemytrip because they allowed me to book the Flexi Plus fare (the choice came up after choosing to book an Economy ticket), which another site I tried did not allow. The fare was the same as booking directly on Indigo.
It does require either in app verification (2FA) or a six digit 3D code generated in app. This is now pretty normal in Europe/UK but you do need a banking app or a mobile phone linked to your account for a OTP by text. I have also been able to book seats and food using my UK debit card post initial flight booking with no further verification
