this isn't the answer you're looking for but please consider first - you should really not medicate based on what you "think" they may have. besides, you can get any antibiotic you want in cancun without a prescription. if you have to do it, at least wait until you get there and visit any "Playa Mart" where the meds are readily available. most stomach illnesses seem to come from fruity drinks ...

In Cancun today, hotel zone, and bought some of our meds. When I asked for Amoxicillin the lady told me I need a RX.
Answer 21 of 24: I know I read somewhere on this board that some ppl get a prescription from their Dr before they go to Mexico for an antibiotic just in case they get sick.
Re: FDA approved drugs. You must have a prescription to purchase Cipro in Mexico. If Flagyl is an antibiotic or narcotic you will also need a prescription for that. Cipro is a prescription drug (in Canada) which fights stomach bacteria. I get a prescription filled before all of our trips. My husband a few years back ended up sick with salmonalla poisoning. If he had taken Cipro on the onset of getting sick, it would have stopped the bacteria from getting worse. Definately worth taking with you.
