Re: Best Route from Kansas City to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. Yes, the bridge is open so there's no reason to avoid Memphis. Google Maps will tell you to go to Memphis, then I-22 to Tupelo and then Hwy 45 all the way down to Mobile. The problem is Hwy 45 goes from decent 4 lane down to cruddy two lane once you cross the border in to Alabama.
