While searching for hotels in Ginza on Google, I came across Mitsui Garden Hotel Ginza Gochome which was on sale at half price for my dates on Yahoo Japan compared to other OTA like Booking and Expedia. I saved around $500!
Japan also has a large number of US military personnel stationed around the country (over 35,000) so people are accustomed to Americans being around. Japanese people kind of expect foreigners not to understand Japanese and customs & to make the usual faux pas like not taking shoes off or neglecting to wash before entering a bath.

Advice request. a few things you can note: 1) order food is probably no problem. just point and smile. a lot of restaurants have menus with pic or food sample outside. worst comes to worst, order what the next person orders. so food is probably no problem.
