Hi Lisa, What car rental company are you using?. When I used Hertz (rental return on Harbor Dr. across from the terminals), I usually planned on 30 minutes to drop the car, have it checked in, board the shuttle, and ride to Terminal 2 (about a 10 - 15 minute shuttle ride depending on traffic in front of the terminals).

Answer 1 of 17: We'll be in SD in mid-March, arriving early evening on a Friday. I've been reading reviews of the car rental agencies on some other sites and it seems like all of the agencies get really bad reviews.
2 years ago. About 30 minutes to drive to the rental car facility and then the shuttle to the airport. I arrive at SAN about 50-60 minutes before my flight when not checking bags, but I have TSA Precheck. I flew out last Thursday morning on a 630am flight and the non Precheck line was long at 530am, but at 8am it may be a little shorter.

Our flight comes in at 11pm so we are hoping to rent a car at the airport (one less stop on the way home). I have heard there is an AVIS in the airport that is open 24 hrs. Are there other companies on site as well.
