If the inside is dirty, they can charge $250.00. Ten minutes of vacuuming seems like there was more than a little dirt.

They all work the same way -- you pay for a FULL tank of fuel before you leave the airport, then you return the car as close to empty as you are comfortable.
I returned from our trip to discover the AVIS airport rental in France had voided my oteoaid contract and arbitrarily charge my credit card 1,600 Euros for returning the car 1 hour late, when the late fee printed in the original invoice was 91.25 Euros per hour.

First- the customer service is awful. We waited in line for over 60 minutes to even talk with an agent then waited an additional 20-30 minutes for the car to arrive. The agent told me that extra insurance in Costa Rica is REQUIRED so I proceeded to get socked with more than $350 in additional charges above my $250 rental.
Answer 11 of 21: My rental experience with AVIS was disastrous. I got duped when I picked up a rental car at FLL in Florida. At the counter I was asked if I wanted to pre-pay for the gas.
