After a few decompression days in Auckland, I will be renting a car for the driving portion of the trip. Is google maps a reliable source for roads or is there something better. 9 years ago. I am mapping out a massive USA Road Trip and had my route drive times on the website: roadtrippers.com. A couple times seems 'long' to me so I went to google maps & all times were significantly shorter (yippee!). Went to mapquest.com & times were similar to Google Maps BU each leg of trip was 15-30 minutes longer on mapquest.

Google Map France can also be downloaded for offline use. You just won't get live traffic. Map use doesn't consume a ton of data anyway. I have an old but still kicking Garmin as well. I still use it when I drive in foreign countries. I then use Google Map as a back-up, primarily for searches.

Therefore the drive time will vary based on time of day (i.e. commute traffic vs. off hours), any accidents, etc. We live close to Silicon Valley and no one uses MapQuest here anymore.
