I'm going down for a week at the end of this month, and I want to get a cheap rental car. I usually use Hertz, but for some reason, their prices are inflated to over $500 for the week! Hotwire has some cheap options, but I don't know which rental car company it will be, and it is non-refundable, so I'm kind of nervous.
Normally, I look up the car price on Hotwire and then reduce it about 20-25% and bid on Priceline, eventually beating the Hotwire offer. This time, Hotwire was so cheap, I didn't even bother. Both Hotwire and Priceline use Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, Alamo, and Budget, as I have had cars from all of those.
I rented a car through Hotwire for an advertised $ 8.06 a day which became $ 23.58 after "tax amount" so for 30 days I ended up paying $ 707.37 through them.
After the rental was returned they billed me an additional $84 on top of the reserved rate with an est. total of $126 When contacting Hotwire they said that the reserved rate was not confirmed, it would have to be paid by credit card at the time of reservation.
