In 1942, the Naval Air Station Glynco was established on the area now known as Glynco. [2] After the area was no longer used for the Naval Air station (1974), 2,003 acres (8.11 km 2) of the land (including the runway) was used for the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport and 1,500 acres (6.1 km 2) of it for the headquarters of Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). In May 1975, after a review of existing facilities, the former Naval Air Station Glynco was selected. In the summer of 1975, the newly renamed Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) relocated from Washington, D.C., and began training in September of that year at Glynco, Georgia.
