Your story is why I always deal directly with the rental car company. Renting a car in Ireland is expensive. I just returned a few weeks ago and my rental car for 11 days cost more than my airline ticket.
Answer 1 of 7: Be careful when renting from Hertz at the Dublin airport. They tell you that they can upgrade you to a better vehicle and then charge you more than the original rental and give you a vehicle that isn't any better.
