As far as I can tell, Waze, Google, Mapquest, and many others have eliminated the ability to map driving directions using the shortest driving miles rather than driving time. Since, I never drive fast and hate patronizing interstates as much as root canal surgery, is there any free way to determine the shortest driving miles for a roadtrip?
9 years ago. I am mapping out a massive USA Road Trip and had my route drive times on the website: roadtrippers.com. A couple times seems 'long' to me so I went to google maps & all times were significantly shorter (yippee!). Went to mapquest.com & times were similar to Google Maps BU each leg of trip was 15-30 minutes longer on mapquest.

MapQuest and Google are great for directions, and general basic information. However, for the most part, those given time estimates are based on point to point at the legal posted speed limit, under ideal conditions. There really is no hard and fast formula for converting those distances into real world drive times within the parks.

Re: Free multi-stop online road trip itinerary planner? 10 years ago. Looks like Mapquest only allows 26, but allows 50 through their API. I think dividing your route into segments and then adding them together is a good idea. Or you could only put in stops where a significant detour is required.

We need help deciding which route has the best sights/stops between the Dells to the MI Upper Penisula. Mapquest sends us up 39 to 70 to 45 into MI. Mosinee, Lake Du Bay and Stevens Point are along the way, but not much else is listed on the map. An alternative is going to Green Bay to see Lake MI, then up 141/41. This route takes us through ...
