Check local destination forums for info on discounts/ coupons for attractions. I would book hotels you can cancel then look for last minute discounts or Hotwire or Priceline for last minute deals. Plan Vegas for week nights rather than weekends and rates will be much lower.
12. Re: Priceline Scam. Priceline is ABSOLUTELY scamming it’s customers. When they say the “Express Deal” is $20.00 cheaper and they charge you an extra $19.20 in “taxes and fees”, that is my definition of a S-C-A-M. (Fairly easy check - Ramsey MN, 6/17/22 - Comfort Suites).

We're arriving into Charlotte SC and want to end up in California. The kids are totally into the idea of doing this trip by train and stopping a couple places on the way.
2. Re: AMTRAK USA Rail Pass - $299 through June 22. Amtrak is pretty dissimilar to European services. For one thing, the network is pretty thin, for another, most places outside the Washington-New York-Boston Northeast Corridor there is only one train a day.
You probably wont get a lecture from the conductor about Amtrak's baggage policy if the Red Cap helps you. Tip $5.00 plus $2 per item. If you want to talk to a human at 1-800-USA-RAIL, when the automaton named "Julie" comes on say AGENT three times and the machine should put you through to a live operator.
I've found a discount at the following link in past years, but I don't see anything there that would apply to the Auto Train this... Florida Flights to Florida
