There is no mention of a charge for a 65+ driver. I called them and got the same information. I think there is some misunderstanding here.

This is the reply I received from DanDooley car rentals Ireland "The hirer need to be a minimum age of 21 years, with a full driving licence for two years and we have no upper limited, but do require a GP’s letter, once the driver is over 75 years old, stating, that they are in full health to drive a vehicle in Ireland.
There are indeed several European countries with upper age restrictions- though in some cases it is 79, not 70- but there are some that deny rental at age 70. This article should help here in the US there are no age restrictions , so many are surprised to find this is the case.
