There is absolutely no difficulty in exchanging Australian dollars fo Lanka rupees at banks. I find that moneychangers give better rates and are often much quicker to do the transaction than banks where things pass through several desks. Sometimes your passport is asked for and disappears for a while - don't like that !

But still you have chance to pay as LKR. Suggestion ;Your own local currency covert to USD then USD to LKR. you have currency conversion lost.
My husband thought it would be best to buy USD here in Australia and use that in Sri Lanka as accommodation has asked for USD. I have just read a little on the forum and it seems to me that converting to USD here is unnecessary. We can take Australian and convert to Sri Lankan currency at a money exchange and use that to pay for things.

Re: How much money can you take through customs? 13 years ago. Hi Owen, Officially you have to declare if you have in excess of the equivalent of USD 10,000 and intend to take the money out of Sri Lanka again. You will find the desk for making the declaration at the entrance to arrivals duty free.
If you have to change INR into $ to bring money out, and then have to change the $ into MYR, you will lose money on each transaction. Then if you have any left you will lose money changing it back in INR again. At the moment on the currency market 1US$ is equivalent to MYR3.56, but you will get slightly less at a money changer.
