Be aware there is about a 2% surcharge for using visa, over cash. We get 2% worth of travel points, so for us, we consider it a wash, and worth the convenience.

The whole membership thing, not just with Costco, but with Amazon Prime, is a rip-off but what can you do? We never had US Costco membership, but had Amazon Prime in US & when i wanted to use it for Amazon Prime Mexico, i was forced to buy a Mexican membership, so now have 2 Prime accounts with Amazon - totally annoying!
