A friend has a cruise package including air , cruise, hotel etc that has a cancellation schedule and he bought a policy from Travelguard to cover the whole package . there is nothing keeping you from buying your own travel insurance policy just because you buy a vacation package from someone as that is quite common

The hard one is whether the airline will even give you a refund--or just a "travel credit". These are extraordinary times.....I would take a refund, no matter who or what I had booked. No one knows how the fallout and re-shaping of travel will go.
We contacted Costco Travel in hopes they would help us reason with Royal Caribbean and get a partial refund since this was a medical emergency. Holland American says to go through Costco, Costco online says to contact the travel department, and after 3 hours on hold, the message says call back later! Did speak w corporate office. They took down info and said we’ll get a call back. Not sure we will. Just want a fax number to register our cancellation on time for credit.
