My daughter and I took the moderate/strenuous Appalachian Trail route to McAfees Knob, then took the easy/moderate Fire Road trail back. Even taking the 2 separate trails, it was still 8 miles round trip per our GPS, and took us roughly 4-1/2 to 5 hours to complete, including the 20 minutes we spent on the knob at the top.
