    Japanese women do wear more skirts and dresses even on weekends visiting places. They also wear heels a lot, something not recommended as a visitor. You will be walking long distances daily. Comfortable footwear is a must. At the end of the day, no reason to be too concerned about blending in. Just be comfortable.

    3. Re: suitable clothing for old woman to wear in Japan Oct-Nov. Leggings are of course OK and so are khaki's and trousers. Late October to November is by no means clod these days. I usually wear short sleeve tops till well into November. You'll need a jacket in early morning/evening, though.

    We just spent 3 weeks in various Japanese cities and although it was winter, we did some hiking on a 20degree day and saw no-one in anything less than long pants. Agree to above that middle-aged women generally wear linen or thin slacks/trousers, or long skirts with stockings. Didn't see bare legs on any females under about 25.
