Re: How United meal and hotel vouchers work? 10 years ago. After a flight delay out of Austin Texas to Houston caused me to miss my connecting flight to Dulles, United airlines issued me a voucher for the new Airport Holiday Inn and three $7 vouchers for food. This happened March 15th.
This will be a 3 course meal with wine. 1.5 hours prior to landing, another meal service will be done which will comprise of some sort of sandwich, chocolate bar, cookie, tea, coffee etc. Drinks will be served throughout. I personally wouldn't get anything before the flight as I find meals on BA flights to be rather tasty and filling.

On United -- without more specific flight information -- it's been my experience that the inflight meal is served about an hour into the flight, and then an arrival snack about an hour before landing. Meals are usually a small salad with pasta/rice with meat or vegetarian option. Bread and butter.

Re: Food voucher for long layover. 6 years ago. #2 - a bit of an aside, but it's not just a case of some airlines offering food vouchers in cases of delay, out of the kindness of their hearts - all EU airlines do this, because they are required to by law.
5 years ago. I'm no snob about food. Airline meals are far from being haute cuisine but they aren't entirely inedible. If you are hungry and have been travelling for a while, and possibly connecting with no time for a gourmet repast at your point of origin or in-between - it might fulfill a need. Hence the appearance of "wolfing" perhaps.
