5 years ago. OP - Get a better VPN, I'm using Google daily, works great (returns search results quickly) for searches in either English or Chinese, and have always liked it better than Bing. Mike, just tried Bing and it too is working just fine, though since I have my VPN on, it's the US version and not the China one. Report inappropriate content.

Google works fine in China, plus if you use google.cn, you have the advantage of google music, where you can download a very diverse selection of English music for free (and its legit!!). If you know the pinyin for a destination, you can also use mapbar.com, which I tend to like more than google maps, especially when it comes to directions.
