When I got to the rental counter after an hour standing in line, the agent could not find any reservation for me.

   You can also google in car rental coupon codes. Recently I was submitting prices almost daily on priceline, & they weren't accepting my offer. I found a coupon code online that I submitted thru a national car rental chain & got a lower price than the offer priceline refused! I also had the option of changing my reservation (or canceling).

However time pressures sometimes means it’s easier to see the sort of prices on offer on an aggregator site rather than traveling through each supplier individually. I’ve learned a lesson though.    It was like any other rental experience. With National, I booked economy and got a compact -- Mazda 3. With Hertz, I booked an economy and got a Nissan Versa. Both times, I got the car for $12/day when normal rates were noticeably higher with the coupon codes I could find.
