I have rented vehicle from Avis Rome location and returning to Fiumicino airport beginning of September this year, the reservation made via Avis website.
I returned from our trip to discover the AVIS airport rental in France had voided my oteoaid contract and arbitrarily charge my credit card 1,600 Euros for returning the car 1 hour late, when the late fee printed in the original invoice was 91.25 Euros per hour. I was told in August 8th I had to send an email to file a complaint.
After reading all these posts before picking up my Avis car hire in Faro in September, I was really quite nervous about it. I went armed with my own Excess Insurance Policy which cost me £23 for the two weeks hire. At the Avis counter I made sure that no extra insurance was being added to my booking by asking the agent.
