Hotwire car rental is such a scam!!! I booked car online on September 30th and I got HOT RATE for it. When I went to rent a car agency ( Ace ) they told me that there is mile limitation for my reservation ( 150 miles a day ) and that I should cancel reservation because if I go further that 450 miles in 3 days I will pay 25 cents per extra mile.
I've used Hotwire a number of times and always been happy with the car. They actually want to make money by selling you the insurance before the car rental company gets a chance to do the same thing. The rental companies are perfectly familiar with Hotwire and they want to tell you that their insurance is better than Hotwire's.
Be careful with Hotwire on rental cars...the car types they show on the website are not what the agency offers locally. We rented a Cadillac ATS or similar for San Jose de Cabo in Mexico on 7/23/15 and the similar was a Nissan Maxima...which I would have been ok with but you can rent a Nissan Maxima or similar at the same location for 1/2 the cost.
