   Hotwire will charge you one-day's rental rate if you keep it 2 hours or 24 hours. However, if you commit to 10 AM on Hotwire, but then for whatever reason need the car for a couple more hours, you will be charged a late penalty by the rental car agency (not Hotwire), even if you have had the car less than a day.

   7. Re: Hotwire scam- avoid it!!! 4 years ago. Had a bad experience with Hotwire on Big Island, Hawaii. They understated the cost of a prepaid Thrifty car rental by 15 % (for a 12-day rental), which was the reason I chose them. Then Thrifty charged me that extra 15% ($132) and would not honor the Hotwire commitment.

   I found a car rental that I would come from Thrifty but the insurance coverage option is completely different from Hotwire ($11/day) vs. Thrifty’s (from their direct site - ranges with various options) - the rental cost was exactly the same though.
