However, the airport has several independent shuttle companies that you can hire. I have used them several times with great success. I personally like the company SuperShuttle. I pre book and pay online. Very easy to change online if your plans change. Also they seem to have some discounts or coupons if you look around.

"Best" can mean many different things. Best beds, best price, best shuttle, best parking, etc. Without any definition we can only suggest here's some options for you to look at. I thought for me the Residence Inn was the best because I had points and they have a 24/7 shuttle. But that may not mean anything to the original poster.

Eight people with baggage is a lot of folks to move cheaply. Bus is definitely an option as cbrand has outlined. You'll need to get from airport to Union Station downtown. You can do that by light rail. That will be $9. But will be $10-11, so that's around $20/person or $160 total. Then you'll need to get from bus stop to hotel in Colorado Springs.
