1. Re: Determining best route to Glacier from Bozeman. 7 years ago. Going from Yellowstone to Glacier is a pretty long drive. 7-8 hours. If your staying at Canyon you have to add the time for leaving the park so another 1.5 hours. Going to the far side and going over the GTSR is not something I would add to that drive.

If your flight is later in the day/early evening, you could just stay in Bozeman. If you drive to Missoula to stay overnight, it's 194 miles (little under 3 hour drive). The next decent place to stay would be Polson (264 miles and a little over 4 hour drive). Then Bigfork which is only 38 miles from West Glacier.
There are some neat views all along Flathead Lake but particularly for Sunset from the west side of the lake looking across it from Lakeside to the mountain ranges beyond the lake. Lakeside also has the Tamarack Brewery and grill which is an excellent place for a meal and some local craft beer.
